And some time of this day.
Loreena McKennitt, "The Mummer's Dance"
---
I told my boss that what felt best about being released was the opportunity to go back to the trenches with my fellow troops, especially the
elite unit here at work of which I am lucky enough to be a part.
Me: "I really like the team you put together."
Boss: "I think it was you who put them together."
Oh yeah. Forgot. Years ago, I was tabbed as having the inside track for a managing job, and a put together a group of engineers that have been at the forefront of a lot of the projects here. I would eventually fall back, preferring the life of the solider than that of the general. I think that speaks volumes of my mentality.
Last night was another night in the trenches, and it was refreshing to think that I was putting in
extra effort for the project's behalf. It's a sickness, I guess, to crave overtime, but when you've spent so long being constrained, being told what to do and when to do it, I feel that it's necessary every now and then to exert my schedule-making muscle.
