Usually, when I come back around the 6:30-ish time frame, the whole facility is in lockdown for one of two reasons. They could be rounding up the drug offenders for STAGES, which is the in- house drug rehab program for those who were or are currently enrolled in
Prop 36 programs. Or, less likely, someone is getting
rolled up.
Last night, it was the day janitor, which is one of the in-house jobs that one can procure if you don't have a job
on the outs. (Other jobs include being the outside janitor, the night janitor, or working in the chow hall.) He had other outstanding warrants, and since last night was his last day, he got sent directly to county so that he could serve his other sentences.
I heard that one of his sentences was
felony evasion, which is basically running away from the cops during a car chase, usually associated with
grand theft auto. In LA county, this is a one-year sentence, but because of overcrowding, you only really serve 10% of your sentences, effectively turning it into a 36 day charge instead. This kind of mathematics is what leads a lot of people to run.
I'm done with
The Silmarillion, and I'm opting now to read some prison-related material, care of my bunkie.
