There's many things I wish I didn't do.
Hoobastank, "The Reason"
---
So I was caught out of headcount the other night, playing dominoes in someone else's room. Technically, you're not ever supposed to be in anyone's room, but they let that slide a little, with the obvious exception of the headcount, which occurs every hour on the hour. The doors were closed and the radio was playing, so I didn't here the warning bell, nor did I take note of the time, since I was dominating the game. For punishment, I have to do 8 hours of in-house work release, things like working in the "kitchen" or helping Riverside (I have no idea what his real name is) with the janitorial duties, and so on. I'm the type of person you only have to punish once, so I'll be stuck in my room from now on, thank you very much.
The problem was that I was too unconcerned about my surroundings, having resigned myself to the idea that it was just a "bad apartment" sentence. I think that now I've got a better mindset for my situation in The Facility, and despite the fact that the ease is akin to a bad apartment, it is, fundamentally, a correctional facility, and I really should treat it as such. It reminds me of gangs in the hood who take over a street corner and profess to "run this block." If the
real authorities were to show up, they'd take cover, and I guess that's what it was for me. I'm hoping to replace the blasé with a renewed sense of dedication to getting the fuck out of here with some sanity intact.
