I am, however, not going to use the Kansas Open Records Act to look at the
CDs that have been removed from Kansas libraries by the state attorney general. But to say that they were removed because they "did not mesh with the value of a majority of Kansans" is ridiculous. So now one man's committee of judgment is to act in lieu of my own.
I would argue that as a font of information, the library should contain all values for discussion and dissemination. I think that there shouldn't be a prejudice against newer art from Devo or OutKast as opposed to the bloodbaths in
Titus Andronicus,
Richard III,
King Lear, or even the beloved
Hamlet.
Imagine you're in England in the Victorian era and you see a play where the whole cast gets murdered by other cast members, and in the end, there is only one man left standing to recall the tale for the audience. Now replace the words "England in the Victorian era" with "Brooklyn today".
