Courtney Love presents an interesting read on Salon.com, discussing the relationship between musicians, the labels, and the downloaders. It occurs to me that there really isn't a standardized web-based forum from which I can just retrieve content, pay a nominal fee that goes directly to the artist (or where a large percentage does), while the web providers recoup costs through advertising. Basically, it follows the eBay business plan whereupon it doesn't actually have to generate any real product, just provide a forum for the exchange of real product.

The fundamental problem, of course, exists when musicians must pay for studio time in order to create the music. So there's no perfect solution, but if anyone wants to get in on a dot-com, this is the one...
