If you should ever leave me
My life would still go on, believe me.
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?

The Beach Boys, "God Only Knows"
---
Mandy Moore (in a single produced by Michael Stipe) does a cover of that song in the movie, "Saved." The movie itself, while predictable, is still a good movie, and it discusses the topic of religion without being pedantic or preachy. It's a movie of self-discovery, a theme that I always hold dear. It's a theme that underscores such classic works as The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" (from which that song was culled), and one of my personal favorites, the blue album from Weezer.

If you've seen trailers for this movie, you've seen the scene where Mandy Moore assaults the main character (played by Jena Malone) by throwing her bible at her, screaming, "I am FULL of God's love!" But what isn't shown is the aftermath, where Jena Malone turns and picks up the bible and says, "The Bible is not a weapon." It's a statement that is both simple and wise, deep and poignant.

There exists a version
of myself that chose wisely, that saved the day, that won, that got it right. I am his approximation. I've rounded down.
