I said it before, as have
others. I'm glad the Chargers ended up with Philip Rivers instead. I imagine that the Chargers will be dealing Drew Brees for an offensive tackle as a temporary solution until next year's draft.
A lot of people are commenting that the Chargers could have pulled off the trade prior to the draft and kept Eli from the embarassment of the boos and whatnot. Personally, I don't think it would have happened until the Raiders owner Al Davis selected Robert Gallery. Once Gallery left the board, it meant that both of New York's top two targets in this year's draft were gone (such is life when you select 4th). The deal was done since they didn't want to come away with nothing. Regarding the compensation, there are reports that Eli's agent and the Giants tampered with the draft process and that the Chargers were going to file a formal grievance with the league. This is because the Chargers, holding the #1 overall pick, were the only team with the right to negotiate with the players. Somewhere in the media backlash, Tom Condon (Eli's agent) and the New York Giants slipped, and I'm sure Commissioner Tagliabue recognized it, and ordered New York to give up a 1st round draft choice next year as punishment.
With Eli in New York, I'm going to go back to my Virginian roots and cheer for the Redskins. I'd like to see LaVar Arrington or Sean Taylor just lay him out. Punk. I mean, who in their right mind disses San Diego? Cleveland, sure. Vancouver, I can understand.
