Well, I did manage to make the playoffs in both of my ESPN Keeper leagues, which is important because that's a league where I'm actually paying money. I'm not a big fan of the Smallworld "Market-Driven" Fantasy Games that I used to play back in the days of Page House.
Of course, my favorite part of fantasy sports in general is the draft. I love drafting. I'll sign up for a free Yahoo league just for draft day. Draft Day is one of my favorite episodes of Sports Night. Billy Beane's war room on Draft Day was the most exciting part of the book
Moneyball. My perfect game is one where I just play the role of GM, making trades and drafting rookies. I'll get feedback from my coaches, and make moves accordingly. Most people yearn for action and excitement. Not me. My games are ideally marked by tedium and reward the meticulous.
I was getting gifts wrapped today by one of those charity tables. I admired the meticulousness with which the young girl wrapped my items. I rewarded her by dropping some dollars in her fishbowl, and proceeded to use the word "endothermic" in normal conversation. I guarantee that she'll never meet someone like me again.
